The Great High Priest

Golden Text-“Seeing then that we have a high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession”.   – Hebrews 4:14

The high priesthood was a hereditary office based on descent from Aaron and required a special degree of holiness. A high priest held the office for life. Being in the order of Melchizedek, the priesthood of Christ is everlasting. Therefore, it is superior to that of Aaron.Jesus is the supreme Mediator between God and sinful man. As High Priest, Christ intercedes before the eternal Judge on our behalf for sin.

By entering into the holy of holies and securing our redemption, Jesus made the reality of heaven available to us on earth. As a result, we can now go boldly before the throne of grace to receive mercy in our time of trouble.
Christ did not suffer so He would learn to obey, but it showed the true cost of obedience to God. His obedience was necessary for him to take the place of human sinners as the perfect sacrifice. Sadly we often have to suffer in order to learn obedience to His will.
